The last nitrogen application of your fertilizer on your warm season grasses should be no later than Sept. 15. Tall fescue can still show brown patch problems. Watch for white grub worm damages. Apply appropriate soil insecticide if you see problems occur. Also try to not forget to water this in for best results. If you are converting from Bermuda to tall fescue stay on the program of glyphosate products during the fall to see results of conversion. Establishing health, vigorous lawns still require watering programs. You should always stay on top of your water program requirements for the fall.
Try to put down your pre-emergent application within the first two weeks of Sept. This will provide the best results. “Do not forget” to treat the areas you are trying to convert from Bermuda to cool season grass seed for the fall. You will kill the seeds you have worked so hard to grow. Next, late Sept.-Mid Oct. is the best time to plant seed for establishing cool season grass ( tall fescue, bluegrass, rye grass, etc. ).
Last, but ny no means least, start to choose your spring bulbs, and the color scheme for spring now.
Thanks for reading. Drop me a message to let me know if this helps you in the process of deciding what to do during this time of the season. Thanks again. Your favorite Lawton landscaper, Gordon. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â See you next time…..

Hello it’s me again. Gordon with Gordon’s Landscapes LLC.
Perhaps you have decided to devote more of your garden to drought-tolerant plants. These types of plants can be the key to gracefully weathering a sustained summer dry spell. Especially if you live with possible watering restrictions. There are many native and naturalized landscape plants that grow well under low-water conditions. Contact your local resources such as a botanical garden to help you identify the water-conserving plants that will readily grow in your area. Cooperative extension service are a major resource.
Additional steps include the use of mulches to reduce soil temperature and evapotranspiration rates. Mulches will also insulate plant roots from summer heat. Weeds compete with plants for moisture. This makes that hated chore of weeding so vital. Keep in mind that fine textured organic mulches, such as pine needles and shredded bark, hold water better than coarse textured ones.
Now is the best time to plan and install the most effective drip irrigation system. Both soaker hoses and/or moveable micro-irrigation sprinklers will gently deliver water only to the roots of your garden plants. The drip irrigation systems equipped with point/source tubing with emitters “punched-in” where plants are located are the most efficient.
You also may want to reduce the amount of turf areas. They demand very high water use with standard sprinkler systems. Replace water demanding turf species with low to moderate-use species. Use turf grasses that may go dormant when unwatered but will green-up again when rainfall returns.
During the summer dry times, follow these water-wise principles:
Lastly, think ahead about implementing a thorough maintenance plan, and read up on environmentally friendly gardening practices. Enjoy a sound and flourishing water-wise garden this summer!
Overwhelming? Give me a call and let an expert take car of it for you.

Drought tolerant plantings, your shrubs and plants, come in mighty handy for people with busy lifestyles. When you’re busy with a career, plant care may go on the back burner now and then. Likewise, when you’re busy raising children, caring for elderly parents, etc., you may not always get around to watering as much as you should.
Then comes your precious vacation time, invaluable for relieving stress. If you leave your landscaping unattended for a trip during the summer, you can’t always count on rainfall for irrigation. As a consequence, while you may come home stress-free, you may find that the plants in your yard have experienced quite a bit of stress in your absence. That is, except for the drought-tolerant shrubs and other tough plants that we have to use.
In many locales in Oklahoma and Texas, great care must be taken when planning your epic landscape and garden. A great landscaper, like yours truly, has the knowledge and experience to select exactly the right plants for your your situation. Yards differ as to available shade. They differ as to run off from neighboring sources. Therefore the right plants that can flourish in your individual yard makes all the different. Then we can get the right ones that have all the seasonal color that makes your creation a masterpiece.
We here at Gordon’s Landscapes LLC try to be on top of the assorted plants that can handle this kind of heat, and cold changes.
We do landscaping in Lawton, but also in Duncan, Elgin, Apache, Medicine Park, Marlow, Fletcher, Altus, Cache, or anywhere else where people want beauty. We can give you a work of beauty that can survive the sometimes harsh climate. Give us a call today.
Landscaping in different weather temperature is a challenge if you are not installing regularly. New plants are coming out all the time.

(Spring) Yard clean-up instructions:
Clean up debris with a rake and lawn bags. This includes limbs, leaves, trash and anything else that accumulated over the winter months.
Cut back overgrown bushes and shrubs with pruning shears or loppers, depending on branch diameter. Fall and winter have provided the perfect growing opportunity for bushes and shrubs in your yard, which is one of the main reasons why you need to trim them back.
Reseed any grass, because the winter may have killed off some areas of your yard. Doing so now prevents it from becoming a mud puddle once the rainy season arrives.
Water your yard if it is dry. In some areas there may not have been enough moisture during the winter months for your yard. Providing it with some water via your sprinklers may be just what it needs to green up and grow.
Cut grass if needed. If you have had a lot of water mixed with warm temperatures, spring may require that you cut your grass. Doing so will not only improve the appearance of your lawn but also help the grass grow.
Thank you for reading my blogs. We service S.W. areas in Okla. Based out of Lawton, Okla. (Landscapes, Lawn services, Water ponds, and Water features, etc.)
