The Last Nitrogen Application
The last nitrogen application of your fertilizer on your warm season grasses should be no later than Sept. 15. Tall fescue can still show brown patch problems. Watch for white grub worm damages. Apply appropriate soil insecticide if you see problems occur. Also try to not forget to water this in for best results. If you are converting from Bermuda to tall fescue stay on the program of glyphosate products during the fall to see results of conversion. Establishing health, vigorous lawns still require watering programs. You should always stay on top of your water program requirements for the fall.
Don’t Forget Pre-Emergents
Try to put down your pre-emergent application within the first two weeks of Sept. This will provide the best results. “Do not forget” to treat the areas you are trying to convert from Bermuda to cool season grass seed for the fall. You will kill the seeds you have worked so hard to grow. Next, late Sept.-Mid Oct. is the best time to plant seed for establishing cool season grass ( tall fescue, bluegrass, rye grass, etc. ).
Last, but ny no means least, start to choose your spring bulbs, and the color scheme for spring now.
