Happy New Year! 2014 is going to be a great year. We have kicked off with a bang. Ponds, Kio fish, and much more….. Gordon’s Landscapes will be teaming up with another contractor in OK City at the home and garden show at the fairgrounds constructing 3- water features.
and that’s not all.Â
I am trying to take a small trip this year to Japan with a great friend to go to a Kio farm, and to watch him judge a Kio show, and get to meet my friend’s “Sensei” who has been raising Kio for over 80 years. How exciting!!!! Well for me it is, because Kio fish, Ponds, etc. is a passion of mine. So this post, wouldn’t you know, is about Kio Pond filtration. Go imagine….
Pond filtration requires two main components; both mechanical and bio filtration.
The Mechanical Filtration
1) The mechanical filtration needs to remove both the suspended particles and the debris that has settled to the bottom so the water is clear, and we can see our fish and plants. If not removed, I call it “Pond pudding” can harbor dangerous organisms and chemicals that threaten the health of the Kio fish, and pond.
The Bio Filtration
2) The bio filtration needs to change the toxic chemicals like ammonia and nitrites, to harmless or helpful chemicals like nitrates, oxygen, and nitrogen. This is done with biologically active bacteria species through the Nitrification process.
A good water filtration system can save money, time, and most important the fish. See you next time.
Remember, give me a call if you want to enjoy the Kio Pond Experience in Duncan, Elgin, Marlow or Walters.
